Used to call a friend in Philadelphia.
She’d answer the phone with one word.
Not hello, either.
Yes, that’s what how she answered the phone. That was her beginning.
Didn’t take long before I was replying with the same word… greeting each other “sup” for “sup.”
Started out with a chuckle and gravitated toward a word-for-word exchange.
This situation is not surprising when you understand how we naturally get in sync with those we associate with.
Hang around with people who talk about Snapchat and you’ll probably start to become interested in it. Or spin classes. Or a certain tee-vee show. Or wine. etcetera…
Move to the “Deep South” and you’ll probably add a little space to your speech, often without realizing it.
Move to the Northeast and you’ll probably start speaking faster.
Fact is we are influenced by those we associate with.
Whether we realize it or not.
We are influenced in positive and/or negative ways.
This is why it’s vitally important to have friends and role models who are leading you in positive directions.
I recently joined a yoga class (first time ever) and started meeting new people looking to better their mind and body.
If you’re trying to eat healthier and lose weight then try and surround yourself with those wanting to do the same.
Join a class, a club or an online forum with those on the same mission.
Not into joining classes, clubs or wanting to meet new people to help accomplish your goal?
That’s okay too.
It’s not for everybody.
